Cheap Wood Flooring:

Cabin Grade Wood - Flooring on the Cheap

Custom Search

Cheap wood flooring or cabin grade wood flooring is a great option for someone who is looking for hard wood floors, but isn't necessarily concerned with the quality of the flooring.

Cabin grade flooring is a great example of "you get what you pay for."

Wood Quality

Not all cabin grade flooring is cheap wood flooring simply because it is poor quality wood. While it is never going to be as perfect as hard or soft wood flooring that you pay top dollar for, it is usually quite serviceable.

Some of the problems with the wood in cheap wood flooring that is cabin grade includes knots, streaks, tree bark edges and color variation. Color variation may be the thing you are most concerned with in this case.

Cabin grade wood is sometimes called "swamp wood" because of the murky spectrum of colors that the wood can come in. There may be some streaking in the color and you could see greens or even black throughout the flooring.

Irregularities

Because cabin grade wood is irregular due to milling problems, sometimes installation can be a bit of a drag. This is where the warning about cheap wood flooring only being worth what it cost comes into play.

Although a piece of wood might look good to the eye, it might be difficult to install. The board might not fit tightly, or the ends might not have been milled square. Your floor might end up uneven.

Another type of irregularity might be the size. Not all cabin grade wood is lesser quality wood. Sometimes it's the run off of the better quality wood - pieces that are cut in sizes too small to sell regularly.

It's Affordable

Because cheap wood flooring like cabin grade flooring is sold at liquidation prices, you really can't ask for better prices. You can generally get it for at least half the price of high quality wood floors.

If you are just looking for a utilitarian floor and aren't hoping to wow all your visitors with a pristine and perfect hard wood floor, cheap wood flooring might be your best option.

No Warranties

Don't expect any money back guarantees when you buy cheap wood flooring.

If you decide to buy cabin grade wood flooring simply because you want to save a few bucks, make sure you check out the product and ask the seller questions about quality before you buy enough to floor your entire home.
